How the random number generator works
Tell it the lowest and highest numbers you want, how many numbers to pick, and whether the same number can come up twice. Press Generate and it picks them instantly. Every whole number in your range, including both ends, has exactly the same chance of being chosen.
The numbers come from your browser's built-in secure random source (the same kind used for encryption), not a simple pattern, so the results can't be predicted. We also avoid a common shortcut that makes some numbers very slightly more likely than others in big ranges. Nothing is sent to us: the draw happens on your own device.
chance of any one number = 1 ÷ (highest − lowest + 1)
Repeats or no repeats?
No repeats works like pulling tickets out of a hat. Once a number has been drawn it's out, so you can't get it again in the same draw. Use this for raffles, picking several winners, choosing who goes first, or lottery-style lines.
Repeats allowed works like rolling a dice several times. Each pick is completely separate, so the same number can come up more than once. Use this for dice games, random samples, or anything where each pick should be independent.
Worked examples
Pick a number between 1 and 100
Set 1 and 100, ask for 1 number and press Generate. Each number has a 1 in 100 chance, which is 1%.
Draw 3 raffle winners from 250 tickets
Set 1 and 250, ask for 3 numbers and leave No repeats ticked, so the same ticket can't win twice. The first number drawn is first prize, the second is second prize and so on. If you want to show people the draw was fair, share your screen or record it, then use the Copy link button to share the settings you used.
A lottery-style line
The Lotto preset picks 6 different numbers from 1 to 59 and sorts them, the same format as the UK Lotto main draw. There are 45,057,474 possible lines, so any one line has about a 1 in 45 million chance of matching all six. A random line is no more or less likely to win than your birthdays, but it is less likely to be shared with other players, because lots of people pick dates, so the numbers 1 to 31 turn up far more often on other people's tickets.

Tips for fair draws
- Number the entries first. Write down who has which number before you draw, so nobody can argue afterwards.
- Decide the rules up front. Say how many winners there are and what happens if a winner can't be reached before you press Generate.
- Running a prize competition? In the UK, paid-entry prize draws usually need a free entry route or a genuine skill question to stay within the Gambling Act. Get proper advice if real money is involved.
- Picking a date instead? Our date calculator and days until calculator help with deadlines and countdowns.
Frequently asked questions
Is this random number generator truly random?
It uses your browser's secure random source, the same type of randomness used for encryption, so the results can't be predicted or repeated. Every number in your range has an equal chance.
How do I pick numbers with no repeats?
Tick 'No repeats' before you press Generate. Each number can then only be drawn once, like taking tickets out of a hat.
Can I use it to pick a raffle or competition winner?
Yes. Give each entry a number, set the range to match, choose how many winners you need and leave 'No repeats' ticked so nobody wins twice.
What are the odds of winning the UK Lotto?
The Lotto main draw picks 6 numbers from 59, which gives 45,057,474 possible lines. So one line has about a 1 in 45 million chance of matching all six.
Can I generate negative numbers?
Yes. You can enter a negative lowest number, such as -10 to 10, and the generator will include the negatives and zero.
